Hyatt Regency Samui

Hyatt Regency Koh Samui review: This is one of the most visually striking hotels I have stayed at in Thailand. From the moment you step into the jaw-dropping white lobby to the moment you leave via golf cart, everything feels polished, intentional, and genuinely luxurious. At 13,000 to 15,000 baht a night with breakfast included, it sits right where you would expect for a quality Koh Samui resort. I recommend this for couples looking for a design-forward retreat and families who want everything under one roof. My only real gripe? Book the full ocean view. Trust me on that. 9 out of 10.

Getting There & First Impressions

I rented a car from the airport, which I strongly recommend. Grab on Koh Samui is expensive, and having your own wheels gives you freedom to explore the island on your terms. A motorbike works too if you are comfortable with that.

The lobby is the first thing that hits you, and it hits hard. Hyatt has gone with a futuristic all-white design that feels like stepping into a luxury space station. The setting is genuinely stunning. Well-trained staff greet you immediately with a refreshing welcome drink while they process your check-in. The staff at the counter were attentive, walking me through the resort layout, explaining where the gym was, and listing the activities on offer. On some nights they run a fire show on the beach, which is a nice touch.

While you wait, walk to the far end of the lobby. The panoramic view from there overlooks the pools and hotel beach below. It is breathtaking and worth the photos. Once check-in was done, a golf cart whisked me to my room. The resort is technically walkable, but going from one end to the other takes a while. The cart service is appreciated.

Tip: Rent a car or motorbike for getting around Koh Samui. Grab is available but charges a premium on the island. The airport car rental desks are straightforward.

The Room

The room at Hyatt Regency Koh Samui was spectacular. They have gone all-in on a cutting-edge, modern aesthetic and it works. The space is generous, spotlessly clean as you would expect from any Hyatt property, and very quiet thanks to solid soundproofing. I slept without a single disturbance.

Design-wise, everything feels sleek and intentional. There is a standalone bathtub that is genuinely photogenic, a comfortable balcony, and modern decor throughout. The bathroom continues the sleek design language with branded amenities, quality shower gel, and shampoo. Nice touches throughout too: a beach bag and umbrella ready to grab, a fully stocked minibar with snacks, soft drinks, and mini bottles of alcohol (all chargeable, as expected).

The one letdown: I booked a partial ocean view and the “partial” was doing heavy lifting. Trees obstructed a good portion of the view, and the room sat a fair distance from the beach. If the ocean view matters to you, pay the upgrade. The partial option is not worth the compromise.

Room tip: Skip the partial ocean view category. The tree obstruction and distance from the beach make it underwhelming. Upgrade to the full ocean view for a stay that matches the rest of the hotel’s standard.

Dining

Breakfast was outstanding. Served in a nice air-conditioned room near the pool, the buffet covered serious ground: Western, Asian, and Thai options with plenty of variety in each category. I went back for multiple rounds and ordered two Thai iced teas, both excellent. This is included in the room rate, which makes the nightly price feel more reasonable.

The restaurant is spacious and well-organized. You can take your time without feeling rushed, and the quality is exactly what you would expect from a Hyatt property. If you are the type to go all-in at breakfast, this place rewards that approach.

I did not eat at the hotel restaurant in the evening or use room service, so I cannot comment on dinner or late-night options. The facilities are there if you want them.

Pool & Beach

The pool at Hyatt Regency Koh Samui was decent. Nothing spectacular, but perfectly fine for a dip and a lounge. The resort has multiple pool areas, which helps spread out the crowd. The real draw here is the overall setting rather than the pools themselves.

The beach was relatively quiet during my visit in early March. Fair warning though: it is rocky underfoot, which makes it less than ideal for swimming or snorkeling. You will want water shoes if you plan to get in the water. The sea itself was nice, just watch your step getting in. Not a deal-breaker, but worth knowing before you pack your snorkel gear.

The hotel also has a gym and runs on-site activities, including fire shows on the beach some evenings. There are kids’ facilities too, which makes this a strong pick for families. You can drop the children off and not worry about logistics since everything is contained within the resort.

Location & Accessibility

Hyatt Regency Koh Samui sits on the northern end of the island, above the Chaweng area. The resort itself is a large, spread-out complex. Golf carts shuttle you around, but you can walk it if you prefer. Just know that going from one end to the other takes time on foot.

One strong recommendation: rent a car or motorbike. Grab on Koh Samui is expensive and the island rewards having your own transport. I drove from the airport in a rental and the transfer was straightforward. If you plan to explore beyond the resort, your own wheels are essential.

Hyatt Regency Koh Samui Review: What Works & Keep in Mind

What Works

  • Stunning futuristic lobby with panoramic views of the pools and beach below.
  • Spacious, immaculate rooms with modern design and excellent soundproofing.
  • Outstanding multi-cuisine breakfast included in the room rate.
  • Attentive, well-trained staff from check-in to checkout. Courteous and efficient.
  • All-in-one resort with kids’ facilities, gym, fire shows, and multiple pools.

Keep in Mind

  • Partial ocean view rooms have significant tree obstruction. Upgrade if views matter to you.
  • Beach is rocky underfoot. Not ideal for swimming or snorkeling without water shoes.
  • Large resort complex means long walks between facilities. Golf carts help but add wait times.
  • Grab is expensive on the island. Rent a car or motorbike for getting around.
  • At 13,000-15,000 baht per night, it is not cheap. Fair for the category, but not budget-friendly.

9/10

Excellent

The Hyatt Regency Koh Samui delivers on almost every front. The design is stunning, the staff are attentive from the second you arrive, the rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the breakfast is worth waking up for. The only knock is the misleading partial ocean view category and a rocky beach that limits water activities. Beyond that, I struggled to find fault. Book it for a couples’ getaway or a family holiday where you want everything in one place.

  • Jaw-dropping futuristic lobby and modern room design
  • Multi-cuisine breakfast included in room rate
  • Attentive Hyatt-standard service throughout
  • Perfect for couples and families alike
