Getting There & First Impressions

Coral Cliff Beach Resort sits on a hillside overlooking Coral Cove, tucked between the more popular Chaweng and Lamai beaches. The moment you arrive at the lobby, you’re greeted with a glass of fresh fruit juice and staff who are genuinely welcoming. They immediately helped carry my bag to the room, which I appreciated given the walk involved.

The entire resort is built into the slope of a hill, which means you walk downhill from the lobby to reach your villa. It’s a short walk, but worth noting if you have heavy luggage or mobility concerns. The upside of this hillside layout is the reason you’re here: elevation means sea views from almost every angle.

The Room

I stayed in a C Villa, which comes with a king bed at 37 square meters. Inside, the room is clean, well-maintained, and has a warm wooden finish throughout. It has everything you need: air conditioning, minibar, safe, and a clean bathroom. Nothing extravagant, but nothing missing either. For a Coral Cliff Beach Resort Koh Samui review, I’d say the room itself is exactly what the price promises.

The real standout is the balcony. Step outside and you get two comfortable seats with a partial sea view. It’s not the full panoramic ocean view you’d get at a luxury resort, but it’s more than enough. After a long day of snorkeling, there’s something genuinely relaxing about just sitting out there and watching the water. The insect situation is minimal too, which can be a concern with hillside properties in the tropics.

The Beach & Snorkeling

This is the highlight of any Coral Cliff Beach Resort Koh Samui review, and the reason I’m giving this place such a high score. The beach is a two-minute walk down some steps from the resort. No shuttle, no long trek, just a quick stroll and you’re on the sand.

What makes Coral Cliff special is the private snorkeling lagoon. It’s a small, sheltered cove that forms a natural mini lagoon. The water isn’t too deep; you can still stand up in some areas. This makes it safe and accessible even for beginners. The hotel lends out snorkeling equipment for free, so you can grab a mask and fins and head straight in.

I saw tiger fish and other reef species right there in the lagoon. This is the kind of snorkeling experience you’d normally pay for on a separate boat tour. At most international chain resorts in Koh Samui, the beach is either too rocky, too exposed, or too crowded for decent snorkeling. Coral Cliff’s sheltered cove is a genuine differentiator that justifies booking here over bigger-name properties.

Pool & Views

The infinity pool overlooks the ocean and the overall view is absolutely stunning. During my stay, the pool area was popular with guests sunbathing and swimming, so it can get crowded during peak hours. Honestly, I skipped the pool entirely because the snorkeling down at the beach was a better use of my time. Most other guests seemed to feel the same way; the beach was just as busy as the pool.

That said, the pool is a great option if you want a more relaxed vibe or if the sea is too rough for snorkeling on a particular day. The hillside elevation means you get sweeping views of the Gulf of Thailand from the pool deck.

Dining

Breakfast was included in my package. The spread covers the basics: bread, eggs, ham, cold cuts, yogurt, fruit, and a selection of Western options. Don’t expect the lavish international buffet you’d find at a big chain hotel. The selection leans Western, with fewer Asian dishes, which makes sense given that most guests at Coral Cliff tend to be European and American travelers.

For what it is, breakfast is decent and fills you up for a morning of snorkeling. If you’re looking for a wider variety or authentic Thai breakfast options, you’ll want to venture out to the restaurants along the Coral Cove road.

The service at Coral Cliff was one of the highlights of my stay. For a boutique resort at this price point, the staff are remarkably well-trained. From the welcome drink at check-in to carrying my bags down to the villa, every interaction felt personal and attentive. This is where smaller boutique properties often outshine international chains: the staff actually remember you and go out of their way to help.
